DIY & DESIGN FROM BERMUDA'S OLDEST PAINT STORE

Easy DIY String Light Upgrade

With a busy workweek, Sundays at our house are full of DIY projects, organizing and fixing anything that’s broken.  With Daylight Savings yesterday I gained another hour which provided the perfect opportunity to start getting ready for Christmas (already!?!?).   We sorted out ornaments, untangled string lights, and made a wish list of new decorations.  After everything was cleaned up, there were some random bulbs left over along with a few strands of plain Christmas lights.

Our holiday wish list was full of lights from Anthropologie but paying over $100 string lights is pretty steep so with an hour to spare I made our own version!

First, I started with a plain strand of white Christmas lights.  The strands we had leftover were short to I joined them together.

I also removed the metal tops from the ornaments.  Do this part carefully since the glass on bulbs is delicate and you want to avoid both shattering the bulb and cutting up your hand.

Then CAREFULLY pinch the original ornament top and insert back into the bulb along with the light. When selecting your bulbs make sure you pick ones with large openings so that the light and the prongs fit.

Repeat with the rest of the lights until you’re finished!

We’re putting up these strands around our bookcase and mantle but they would also be beautiful on the tree.
