Fun Florals – 6 Ways To Make Your Home Bloom

It’s another cold and windy Winter Sunday here in Bermuda and even though it won’t snow anytime soon it’s still pretty cold in the living room when it’s 55 degrees outside!  Spring (and warmer temps!) will be here before we know it but even when it’s rainy and gloomy outside you can remind yourself of sunnier days with fun florals!

If you associate floral with your grandmother’s living room, it’s time to take another look at this punchy pattern.  Skip the small flowers in earth tones of red, gold and sage green and look for bold colours and large prints like this vibrant headboard and matching pillow.  Keep the rest of the space neutral and soft to make both the print stand out and keep it from overtaking the room. This bedroom is fun and flirty but not to sweet!

For a calmer, more relaxed colour scheme, look for floral prints in softer tones like this grey, seafoam and soft gold design.  Mix it with other patterns in similar shades (like the stripes on the headboard) to get a visually interesting, but not overly stimulating design like this bedroom from Houzz.

Bathrooms are a great place to experiment with colour.  Contrasted with bright white tiles, furniture and accessories, this wall really pops!

Again, if you prefer a softer look add just a touch of pattern in a softer palette like on these curtains.

Chairs are a great opportunity for adding pattern.  Both the cushions or the chair backs are a great place for floral touches.  Tie them with the rest of the space by adding artwork and accessories in the same colour palette but different pattern.

And remember, just because they’re flowers doesn’t mean they have to be pink and green.  This design in shades of grey is perfect for this simple but stunning kitchen.

A few months ago I discovered heavy duty contact paper and gave my desk a whole new look in 15 minutes.  For a Spring surprise every time you open a drawer line it in a fun floral print.  It will keep the drawers clean and easy to wipe plus it’s great for hiding any damage or imperfections in older furniture.  How amazing is this cabinet from Anthropologie!?

So remember, to keep your florals from looking dated and drab look for large patterns in bold and contemporary colours.   And as with any design element or theme – a little goes a long way!
